You're right--I couldn't find my old post either. Maybe when Wiley upgraded
the site a few months back, some of the old archives didn't make the move.

Anyway, I have a Parker 2150 with twin F115s. Bottom line is that the twin
F115s add enough weight to the transom that the small OEM tabs don't have
enough effect. I believe this set up is a bit more transom heavy and thus
should have much larger tabs. The cost of tabs was high compared to the
DoelFins. So I went looking for DoelFins.

First I did some research and discovered that there were a lot of complaints
against the DoelFins (and similar styles) that bolted onto the ends of the
anti-ventilation plate. Appears that the constant flexing eventually cracks
the plate. The recommendation was for the kind that bolt to the bottom of
the anti-ventilation plate, and have full contact with the bottom of that
plate. Only two manufacturers meet that--Permatrim and CoBra Marine.
Permatrims were much more expensive, and I needed two. So I ordered two
CoBra plates from Cabela's. They were much lower cost and worked great.
Get the unpainted SS ones--the paint comes off over the long-haul anyway.

The plates give the transom much more lift, and I don't have to trim the
motors all the way in to get the bow down like I did without the plates. In
fact, I can run the motors at almost the neutral position, and the tabs have
become much more sensitive/effective. Actually improved my gph burn because
the motors were more neutrally trimmed and the tabs weren't plowing furrows
in the water like before.

The plates are so effective, that If I trim the motors all the way in, I can
force the bow down too far, and the ride gets squirrely. So...I'm very
happy with the outcome.

Obviously you didn't do a search on TheHullTruth.com and see my long
dissertation on the CoBra plates I mounted on twin F115s on a 2510.

As a means of decreasing my planing speed I have just purchased a
set of Permatrims. I have been searching for an answer to the
question " what's the best way to reduce planing speed and to hold
plane?" I have found absolutely ZERO definite answers. I've seen
similar questions on differing sites with responses like, doelfins,
4 blades, bigger tabs but, have yet to read " I did such and such
and it works excellent/sucks". So I bit the bullet and will
eventually let you guys know how they work. Why Permatrim? My
dealer and a friend have had little success going the 4 blade
route. Beside the fact $$$$. The dealer suggested doelfins,
actually one set for two engines, just mounted to the outsides of
either engine. I have heard that 2 sets would cause way too much
stern lift and drag, and would adversly affect the ability to trim
up. I hate running with the tabs fully tucked down so bigger tabs
were never an option. The only choice for me was Perma. Hope it
works or I'l have a few holes to fill in the cavitation plates when
I remove them!
