Brent, I may be doing overkill but my strategy is to replace my water pump every other season. For me that’s only about 200 to 225 or so hours. I change the oil (engine and lower unit) and spark plugs every season. Curious what other are doing as well.
 
I used to do mine every 3 years. Replaced the entire pump, not just the impeller.
 
By the book, it’s about the same, 200hrs ish. So if you want to keep it simple and be on top of it, put the pump and thermostats on the same schedule. I wouldn’t go more than 3 years or 300 hrs though. The most likely failure for these thermostats, IMO, is that they will fail stuck open. You will figure it out on the 4 strokes when you loose power and it starts fouling plugs. Usually on one side. Speaking from experience as mine did this shortly after buying my boat on port side and she was in the 300+ hour range. I’m sure they were original.
