91 Parker CC Fuel tank replacement

Just checking in and wanted to let you guys know the Rustoleum nonskid deck is holding up like a champ and the new tank is doing great. I even did the gunnel tops with the Rustoleum nonskid.

And that’s it folks. Final coat of deck paint went down. I’m happy with the results. Bait tank / leaning post install don't need updates for this thread. Total cost with new fuel tank, epoxy, fiberglass, wood, decking supplies… roughly $2,000. I saved several thousand dollars tacking this...

For those interested, it’s Rustoleum Oyster White. Matches the old school Parker color almost exactly.

91 Parker CC Fuel tank replacement

Decided not to go with Kiwigrip. Only because I’m a ding dong and it required several steps to acquire certain no skid texture and the instructions said not to do a large area in one shot.. so I decided in Rustoleum Topside with non-skid additive. It’s sold at my local Lowe’s home improvement...

91 Parker CC Fuel tank replacement

I moved my console / T top / leaning post 6” closer to the bow. What a difference that makes being able to work a fish at the stern between my bait tank and the engine. Ride quality feels the same. Whoever says 6” isn’t a lot, it’s plenty!! Lol.

Fiberglass is down. Next step will be to sand down the glass and entire deck to repaint it.

91 Parker CC Fuel tank replacement

I’m not sure if it’s the most common way but it was the easiest for me to think of. I used two coats of Epoxy on the 2X4’s. Then when I drilled into them to install them, I dabbed Marine 4200 for the holes and dabbed 4200 on the mounting hardware. The deck is solid in itself without the...

91 Parker CC Fuel tank replacement

Got the deck installed today and sanded down roughly 1.5-2” on each side of the seam. Made a nice taper near then seam. Filled the seams with thickened epoxy aka peanut butter. I’ll sand it and throw 1708 fiberglass tomorrow. I’ll wait till that cures, sand down as smooth as I’d like anthem...

Yep on both. Just so you know, Vince welds in the pickup tubes and installs a new fuel sending unit. You’ll simply need the fittings for the fuel pick up hoses and vent hose.

If a bare foamed tank lasted 30 years from factory, I’m pretty sure this bare breathable tank will last just as long, if not longer. My 2 cents.

Decided to just drop in the tank just like my tank builder recommended. Naked. Tank is secured to the stringers with 1/4” lag bolts. Starboard used as spacers between the tabs and the stringers. Feels solid. Should stay put even with the pounding of the ocean. Used 2X4’s sealed with 2 coats of...

Can you recommend a brand of Coal Tar Epoxy and where to buy it? Maybe a link?

Got two more to make. Ran out of neoprene. But this is what it should look like under then tank.

Stacked two 3/4” rubber strips with a top layer of 1/4” Neoprene rubber strip. All layers glued with 5200. The neoprene side will go towards the tank. I’ll be spreading an even layer of 5200 between the tank and neoprene. Then a small bead of 5200 between the rubber and fuel coffin. This will...

I also stopped by the a San Diego fiberglass store and picked up 2 yards of 1708 Biaxial for the cut deck seam. Going to screw down the deck. Taper in the seam about 2” on each side. Fill with peanut butter and glass with 2 layers of the 1708. Here’s more pictures of the tank

Picked up the new 3/16” tank from American Fuel Tanks in San Diego. This thing is solid. Vince did a phenomenal job.

Thanks Warthog. I’d prefer not to glass over the tank hence why I’m making a breathable coffin. Neoprene strips will keep the tank off the surface and it’ll be secured with the tabs to the stringers. West coat boats have bait tanks, like mine, directly above the fuel tank. Hoses and fittings...

Yes that’s what I’ll be doing. Adding a 6” inspection hatch where I can reach down 18” to remove the plugs.
