Hey guys this is my first post here on classic parker. I just recently picked up a 1994 Parker 1801(atleast that’s what i think it is). I picked it up from a guy here in San Diego who trailered it down from Florida, and realized it was more of a project than he wanted. It came with a 2 stroke 70 johnson that we pulled off and disposed of because the head bolts were completely seized and the motor didn’t run. I plan to completely gut and rebuild this boat from the hull up. The boat was supposedly built for commercial fishing and had no gas tank installed, so we will be cutting the deck out to place a tank in, as well as addressing a few soft spots in the deck. I’d be happy to hear any and all suggestions, constructive criticism or comments along the way. I don’t work on boats everyday for a living, so everything I do may not be the conventional way of doing things so i’m happy to hear your inputs.

What size tank are you considering? If you plan long trips there's room to hold more than the 60 gal. Also, there's unused space that can be utilized below deck with strategically placed hatches.
If you need I have copies of the stringer plans.

Plan now to add a fuel fill chase to the gunnel and tank box. I would look at a typical 18 and follow it. Run your marine grade wires now. Also, don’t foam the tank in. Keep an air space around it and secure the tank completely. Use all top grade stainless and never let water stand in her when she’s on the hard. Good boats. Take care of them and they take care of you.

Where was the tank in the console?
I like that you skewed the deck cuts instead of straight.
Whats the repowering plan? Suzuki 140?
Here's some files I have for the 18's

Hey Tom, thanks for those diagrams, they will be very useful because i was planning on trying to add a forward deck hatch for minor storage. I went ahead and had a ~40 gallon made, I don’t think I will need any more than that plus i planned to add some weight. Am i reading correctly that the tank was located at the stern of the boat? My plan was to put the tank a little further forward because i want to add a ~30 gallon livewell under the leaning post. The fuel tank previously just sat on the stern.
As for a repower, i’m still on the fence. The Suzuki 140 seems like the way to go for power, however i’ve always felt like yamaha 115 would have better reliability. We’ve always owned yamaha motors on our boats and seldom had issues.

Thanks Efx, I greatly appreciate your input. As for foaming the tank in, why do you not recommend this? The cavity is a dry cavity, no water should intrude. However i was still planning on glassing in a 3/4 piece of marine ply under the tank which would make a void for water to flow under the plywood if water we’re to intrude. i was just planning on foaming the sides to hold it in place as well as secure it in its own “box”. She will be trailered after every day on the water.

The drawing shows where the rear of the tank is then go forward from there
How did you order the tank already? Did you get the drawings from someone? Hopefully they position the fill and vent tubes in the right direction and the pick up and sending unit in the right location.
If its not already there you will need to cut a hole in the port side stringer to route the fill and vent hoses.
Move the batteries into the console to offset the live well.
You could move the console forward a bit too.

Here is a picture of the new tank, the fill and vent I positioned toward the bow and the pick up and sending unit toward the stern. I had a hole cut in the deck already before I had ordered a custom tank so i knew where i wanted things positioned. That’s exactly what I was thinking for the fuel chase, just to build a fiberglass box and laminate it to the hull. I appreciate the photos Tom, they are a world of help!

At first glance the hull looks more like a 1700 than an 1800. The 1801 was several years away when yours was built. I’d reach back out to Parker with your hull number and ask for schematics to confirm. I was able to pull your hull number from the photo that included the the upper starboard transom. There is a bit more info here: 1995 Parker 1700, any info is appreciated

I run a 98’ 1800 and have rented a 1700 once. They are very different hulls, especially in gunnel height. Much lower HP needs so that should save you some $ for other tricking out.

Cool boat and project. Enjoy!

They forgot the anchoring/mounting tabs

It is 18’ from tip of bow to stern, so i’m thinking it’s a 1800. I reached out to parker to see if they could tell me anything else about it. But as you stated probably not a 1801 as I do see they are the newer model.
Thanks for the reply Sam.

I think it’s an 18’ from the look of the transom. I have a 17’ and the freeboard on an 18 is slightly higher all around. That’s the primary reason why the 18 weighs 900 lbs more than the 17’. You will need mount tabs for the tank unless you use chocks to anchor down the tank. If you use chocks, use very heavy starboard blocks.

I was checking out your 17’ , that’s a nice set up you’ve got! I’m still waiting for parker to get back to me but I’m pretty sure it’s a 1800. I was going to foam the sides of the tank and use chocks as stated. This is the way we did it in our old 18’ mako, and 22’ guardian and we never had any issues. One thing i’m having trouble remembering is how we plumb the bait tank. i was thinking of doing a thru-hull with a seacock then mount a dual outlet livewell pump so i can add a raw wash down as well. but i’m not sure where to send the drain, i feel like thru the bottom creates too much back pressure, but i also don’t want to drill through my transom.
