Picked up the tank today, cost was $925, has extra flange for sending unit and extra vent like Warthog spoke about. Did not upgrade to thicker material. In the picture I have the sending unit out, my boat does not have a fuel gauge on it, currently uses a fuel flow sensor and the Garmin. Will be placing a mechanical sending unit with built in gauge. It will be coated this week then taken back to the boat yard.

I dont see an extra vent?
There is a extra threaded fitting beside the fuel pickup that has a cap on it in this picture going to add a barbed fitting to it connect it to the front vent.

I don't understand what your saying? "Sanding with wet epoxy coating?

First I wash the tank down....2 rag methiod with wax & Grease Remover.......Sand tank with 180gt on a DA sander......wash the tank down again ....2 rag methiod with wax & Grease Remover. tape of flanges and roll 2 coats of coal tar epoxy on the tank.
Following instructions in the Gougeon WEST book
You put the epoxy on the cleaned degreased metal and while the epoxy is wet you sand the metal. this gives you unoxidized metal for the epoxy to bond to. A bit messy to say the least.

Same process but different method when you use an etching primer to chemically etch. This is a mechanical etch.
 
I decided to have the tank sprayed with bullet liner. Before that though, I replaced the sending unit with the style I wanted. I used the tef-gel that was suggested for the screws. I dropped the tank to the boat yard yesterday, they said it would be a couple of weeks before they were finished with it.

Well It Looks Nice.....I call the fuel gauge type a stare at it gauge. LOL

I would have not done that and installed a fuel gauge in the dash.

While I understand using the fuel flow meter.....The gauge does help with fueling.

You still have that, you just have to go to extra steps to see it.......OR

Just throught of this.......Install a clear piehole cover. :)


We had dual tanks [side by side] Boat originally had 1 fuel gauge and a switch to flip back and forth to read each tank. I didn't like it and redid it with each tank having it's own gauge. So you suck out of 1 tank for a while , then switch to the other tank.....at a glance you could see tank fuel levels and compare.....switching would keep the boat level.
 
Since one of the water intrusion paths is the pie plates, I worry about a frequently accessed fuel gauge. Keep up the good work!
 
Incidentally, did you find any damp or rotted wood? What was the smoking gun in the tank corrosion?
No, all the wood seems to be in good shape, not real sure I found a smoking gun per say. A friend on mine is convinced it was electrolysis, I’m not sure about that either. I assume moisture just got trapped in the foam over the years and salt started eating away at it.
Boat is still at the boat yard, hopefully they’ll be done with glass work soon, they’re backed up like everyone else is.
 
Got the boat back from the boat yard, they did a good job putting it back together, sprayed non skid and it looks good. I ended up owing them about $2800. Next is to put the console and t-top on it, add a larger side door, move the batteries up front and start the rewiring process.

I just bought an 2008 DVCC and was wondering what year your boat is ? Sorry found it in a previous post. Hopefully I can get another seven years out of mine.

I have a '96 dvcc with the original tank. Replacing the tank is the next project on my list but, if you're lucky and the floor doesn't leak, it can last a while.

Looks good! Definitely agree with a bigger side door. I have a '96 21DV and plan to replace the tank in the next year or two. No issues so far so I've been putting it off. Looking through your pictures it looks like your tank was mounted more towards the front of the boat? I requested stringer/deck lay-out schematics from Parker and it looks like the tank could be removed without detaching the console. Do you think this would be possible? I'm assuming the tank location didn't move from 96 to 00?
