Hi all,

Recently I got a new 2320 SC and am looking to haul a 12’ kayak occasionally. I have radar and rocket launchers so can lay flat on the roof. I was wondering if it would be feasible to add some sort of kayak rack to the port side handrail on top of the roof.

has anyone done this and/or have anysuggestions/recommendations? The kayak is about 75lbs and the roof seems quite sturdy, however I want to make sure it will be OK. Also, don’t really want to fabricate anything, but not sure any off the shelf solutions would work?

Surprisingly I haven’t found much online. I see recommendations to bungy it to the bow rail, however I’m worried about visibility and just generally being in the way; it would be better to out of the way on the hardtop if practical.

thanks

Set Of small ubolts and some stainless pipe/square stock should accomplish the same something. Possibly with wing nuts to make easy for removal is not in use.

Hmm… good idea. Cradles on a crossbar would be great. I didn’t think an auto crossbar would fit, but can look at what Thule has again. May have to take some measurements. Also need something that won’t corrode though as it will be in saltwater.

Building something could be an option too, just don’t have too much free time to design something. Stainless tubing would work if the rocket launchers/horns/radar don’t get in the way, and I can find a decent secure way to connect and finish.

I don’t have that much experience with kayak cradles though. Would they slide around on round smooth stainless tubing? Would something more square be better? Then again how to attach securely, and will the rails support sufficiently?

The bars come round and square. Once they clamp on strap around bar will hold kayak and cradle in place. I have a set that's for round or square made by Yakima. Wonder if they would work just clamped onto the side rails and kayak having over 1.5 on each side.

Interested because I was going to make something up to hold my paddle boards up there prior to selling my 2120.

I built a removable aluminum rack system that will hold several kayaks or paddleboards that I use when I escort races. Takes about 30 minutes to install and very sturdy.
