My son is doing a project in school about the watermen of the Chesapeake. He is putting together a "Jeopardy" game of Q and A's related to this. In Jeopardy style, an example might be...

A: Rockfish

Q: What are stripers called in the Chesapeake?

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Dave

I hope Dale doesn't ban me for this, but here goes.

A: Tilghman Island Tennis Shoes (e.g., those white rubber boots that watermen wear)

Q: What are TITS?

Kevin wears them:

Just had to come up with a couple:

A) Deadrise

Q) Popular style "workboat" in the Chesapeake Bay

A) Flounder

Q) Flat fish with both eyes on the same side of it's head

Thanks!

He used the deadrise and flounder. I didn't pass on the "tennis shoes" question, although it would have been very popular in a room full of fifth graders!

Here are a few:

Q: What are spat?

A: Baby Oysters.

Q: What is the scientific name of the Chesapeake Bay Oyster?

A: Crassotrea virginica

Q: When were the Chesapeake Bay Oyster Wars?

A: 1882-1883

Q: What are tongs?

A: Tools used catch oysters in deep water.

Have fun.

How about

Question:
Virginia, Maryland, Delaware ... and ???????

Answer:
What states surround the Chessapeake Bay

... I know the answer ... I just don't know the question ... ! LOL!

Not being very experienced in this sort of thing(boating), but I am an avid flyfisher.

I would think that a simple picture(animated gif-"Daily Double") of tying a knot. With the name of the knot as the answer.
Albright
Clove hitch
Bowline
Just to name a few.

Thanks guys,

Assignment is done and he did use some of the less colorful suggestions! He particularly liked the "incorrect name for a rock fish"...

Actually... Delaware doesn't border the Chesapeake anywhere.
It is, however, connected by the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal which connects the Chesapeake Bay to the Delaware Bay.

Maryland and Virginia are the only states that border the Chessie, though the ESMD and ESVA residents might beg to differ. :D

Extra credit: Washington DC sits on the Potomac River, a tributary of the Chessie which splits the Chesapeake between the two states.

Here is one for you...

Answer: New York State

Question: What State is the furthest distance from the Chesapeake Bay, that has water flowing from it, but still empties into the Chesapeake Bay?

Hey ... ! Well, he better not use that when he gets to Hahvid (Harvard, for those who pronounce their "R"s :) .

Is this 'rockfish' a Mason-Dixon line kind of thingy here ... :?: ??

;)

It's more a "Chesapeake Bay" waterfolk thing. 8)

The Mason-Dixon line is another subject all-together. :)
