Cutting into helm area / dashboard on 2310

I bought a Nss12 Evo3 to replace my old raymarine unit. Will be cutting into the dash soon. Going to use plenty of tape and a rotozip

Any thoughts? Do I need to worry about the structural integrity of the helm? It's a big 12" display. Grey area on paper shows the approximate cut out area

Can't speak from personal experience, although I'm about to do the exact same mod, albeit on an earlier style helm. But large flush mounted MFDs are the norm these days, you should have no structural issues whatsoever. Be warned, that dash is about an inch thick so have some extra bits.

May make your cleanup a little easier if you tape a paper grocery bag over the backside of the helm to catch the wood chips. Putting a running shopvac hose inside the bag will probably do wonders for you as well.

I never made a cut out quite that big, but I have cut into the dash on my 2005 Parker 2520 to install electronics. Based on my experience, I would not fret about structural integrity. That plate your cutting into is plenty thick and strong or at least it was in my boat.

That 12” screen should look great......

If you can? Cut it with a Multimaster tool......A Rotozip is gonna sling crap EVERYwhere.

You will be fine I just put a furuno tzt3 12 in and it’s bigger than the simrad nss12 that I had in my 2320

didn’t have an issue with the cut outs on either one


I agree with everyone else don’t use a rotozip.
Bag off the inside of the console and I used a oscillating saw.

Thanks for the advice y'all... As mentioned I used a dewalt multi-tool. Amazing tool. I bagged off the inside with duct tape and a kitchen trash bag. Worked GREAT! Thanks for those tips. I don't have any work in progress pictures, I should have taken some. Anyway, after careful alignment of the provided template I was able to make some cuts. The width of the existing cuts was a little larger than the simrad but I was able to make do. You can see on the left hand side there are some marks as to where the radio used to be. Anyway, I think it looks great and I don't need any extra starboard.

I also installed a Halo 24 radar to replace the early 2000s raymarine unit. Very easy, bolted right into the original raymarine mount! This new radar is very nice compared to old one. You can clearly see the dock fingers on the screen, very impressive! I haven't taken her out yet, very excited.

I networked the nss12 evo3 to the lowrance HDS7 using a simple ethernet cable and NMEA2000. Can share sonar, radar, waypoints, etc.

Fingers crossed, this was much easier than I thought it was going to be. I still should re-org the wiring in the dashboard but I will save that for another day. Sure was nice to rip out the old electronics.
