I have a one piece bow rail that is coming off my 1993 Parker 18 that is in excellent shape. The boat has been used in fresh water and covered when not in use. I plan to have a powder coated T Top and matching rail made for the boat. Call if interested. 919-649-8058
 
how hard is it to install rails after the fact.
If I get an 1801 w/o rails and later want to put them on is it a big ordeal?
 
You can access under the gunwale easily on the Parker and that is where you would thru bolt the bowrail around the edge of the boat. Each stancion is bolted with10x24 machine screws and locknuts underneath.

Yes, as stated you should have easy access to the entire area under the washboards of that hull where they follow the gunnel. Below is a picture of what each stanchion base looks like.
