As of this writing, it looks like TS Ernesto is located right off of Cape Hatteras.
Obviously... as time goes on, that graphic will change.

Those of us with boats sitting in wet slips are watching the winds and the tide tables in anticipation of a predicted 2 to 3' storm surge.
If that is all we get here in the Chesapeake, our docks may be awash, but we should be OK.

Check those dock lines guys!

As a first timer wet slipper through a hurricane I am worried. I have plenty of slack in my dock lines and tied up last time at a windblown ultra high tide. Am I going to be OK?

Given those precautions, I'd think that you should be OK.
Will Breezy have someone 'on duty' to go around and adjust lines as needed?
My marina does that during storm events, but I live close enough that I check on mine personally.

So long as you have sufficient slack to account for tidal surge, but no so much as to allow contact with the pilings, you should be alright.
Adding extra lines is always an option, but I tie my boat with 7 lines already.

The only other thing to do is to monitor conditions at TPL, and also check the tides for Breezy to see when the times of greatest concern are.
You can find a tide calculator here:

http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries/ac ... inder.html

In my case, the high tide today for Greenbury Shoal is at 1110 with the next one at 0017.
I believe once I get past both of those points, the event will be over for us.

Do you have someone near Breezy who can check on your boat for you?

Glad my boat is sitting on my trailer as I havent had time to splash her since my trip to NJ..

Just got back from checking my boat at the marina.
High tide was at 1115 hrs...

Water is up with the NE wind, but I think we are going to be fine.
The storm is still south of us and if all goes well, it should pass through here at low tide. (fingers crossed that it doesn't stall)

Here are some photos I shot while I was down there.
Look how close the water is to the docks.

Still... some non-Parkers were getting pulled and blocked. :D

No problems...

I had to tighten up on my port side bow and spring lines as the NE winds were pushing her a little closer to the stbd pilings than I liked.
As the storm passes, the winds should shift to the E, and around to the S as Ernesto exits.

With any luck, I'll be fishing for blues and spaniards tomorrow! :)

I checked my lines last night and gave them a little extra. There is a guy who lives on a house boat on my pier, he will keep an eye on it for me too. I don't think it will be too bad.

TPLM2 (Thomas Point Light) is offline. :(

The wind is howling right now, so I'm guessing that something out at the lighthouse broke in the weather.

It has to be >50kts right now...

Careful there Kevin... Gusts like that can take you off the dock.
Parkers can be replaced. Parker Owners can't.

Stay safe.

Just got back from another boat check. My weather gear is soaked!

The tide is falling, though the water is only down about 6" from the last time I checked.

We are going to be fine. This is no worse than any other nor`easter we generally see.

I'll be checking periodically between now and the next high tide at midnight though.

TPLM2 is reporting winds out of the NE ( 50 deg true ) at 38 kts.

TPLM reporting winds from the NE ( 40 deg true ) at 38 kts, gusting to 42.
Do-able for a Parker. :D

Wind Direction (WDIR): NE ( 40 deg true )
Wind Speed (WSPD): 41 kts
Wind Gust (GST): 46 kts

boondoggle... that is where I found my boat!
It was sitting under a big oak tree.

Current conditions:

Wind Direction (WDIR): NE ( 50 deg true )
Wind Speed (WSPD): 38 kts
Wind Gust (GST): 44 kts

She is still a nor`easter for us. :(

My boat is sitting on the trailer in the driveway weathering the storm just fine. My roof is another story though....

The wind took about 6 shingles off the peak of the roof and I've got water coming in. I think I caught it in time though. I've got some buckets up there collecting the water.

Looks like I'll be making a trip up on the roof tomorrow... :(

As of now...

Wind Direction (WDIR): NE ( 40 deg true )
Wind Speed (WSPD): 37 kts
Wind Gust (GST): 42 kts

The NE wind direction saved me. My boat is on a lift at an exposed point on the South River. If the 40 knot wind had been from the E or SE, it would have blown right up the river. It would have raised the water level and added big waves on top. Even though I tied the boat to the lift cradle with heavy rope, I'm sure it would have been beaten around.

I checked things this morning. Judging from the debris line on the shore, the water came up just about to dock level, keeping me safe from buffeting waves. :D

As of 10:00am here on L.I. New York, light drizzle and winds approx. 20-25ish, thats about 1 mile from Greatsouthbay, I have like 2 leaves on the ground. Not what they called for in this area. GOOD!
