I installed a Lowrance 3G this spring. I am SUPER impressed at the accuracy especially at very close range. I have only a handful of nighttime runs with it but it definitely was a worthwhile investment. I can pick out buoys and other objects (bridges, boats and even kayaks). I cannot pick out crab pot markers but if I stay in the channel to get home. One thing that really impressed me is that it clearly shows the nets that are up and down the bay.
