Last October Wahoo fishing off of Cap lookout NC me and my Parker came upon this boat on fire . Just thought I'd share. Father and son got off ok.

The fire always seems to go out once it reaches the waterline.


That had to be hard to watch.
 
Man I hate seeing that
Hope they get enough money back to come out OK
 
WOW that is pretty sad i tell you that but thank god eveyone got off if alive!!

With the volume of fire seen there, I would suspect a fuel leak.
 
I'm no fireman, but drove trucks for many years and it usually takes an open flame to light diesel fuel I believe. I think the fire must have started elsewhere before it hit the fuel.... JMO :roll:
 
the engine rooms on the luhr's are TINY TINY TINY.

a fuel line could have ruptured and sprayed fuel on something hot like an exhaust... hot hydraulic oil, hot engine oil, who knows.

shame to see a nice boat go down.

Quite true, but warm diesel fuel under pressure creates a fine mist which is pretty easily ignited.
All just speculation though...
