First trip offshore this year in the Bad Betty.

Ran to the hot water north of the RockPile.
73 degrees water and pretty blue. 40 fathoms or so around the 100.
A beautiful rip to the western and grass piled up on the edge.
Gannets flying, whales breaching, turtles swimming, even saw a manta ray.
Nobody around. I thought we had found the spot.

Unfortunately there was about 3 knots of current pushing hard to the eastern.
Made it tough to find fish. Even more current out in the deep
We worked west most of the day. Not much action.

Finished the day throwing back a bunch of false albacore.
Kept 2 small gaffer sized dolphin for the box.
Fish Tacos that night.

Nice to be back home & fishing the edge.
Try it again on friday.

follow up fishing report

I fished yesterday 3/23 with friends on their boat.
We fished a little more to the east where the blackfin bite had been happening.
We circled around with the fleet but nothing for us.
Came back to the inshore change and worked that in & out for the day.
That was the winning ticket.

4 wahoo (3 on the planer, one back on the sea star)
2 gaffer dolphin
1 king mackerel
1 blacktip shark (on the troll)
and a bunch of the largest false albacore I've ever seen. Again.

A good day

Mr G, glad you've got out already! Still waiting for a weather/soccer window here in charleston. Reports have been very good for those who have gone. Wahoo, black fin and dolphin. Early migration with warm temps. Tight lines !!!

MrGeeze,

Thank you for the intel that has not gone through the prop machine. Ill be at Teach's lair this weekend for my first trip out to the RP and Ill keep your report in mind. Last time we encountered similar situation we slooowwwed down barely in gear, let go the steering wheel and jigged at same time, turned out to be a good choice.

Thanks again and tight lines,

i fished out of hatteras yesterday & the day before (4/13 & 4/14)
both times we fished to the southern.
first day we spent in the deep.
we managed a few gaffer dolphin bites but not much in the boat.

yesterday we went further south & worked the break for awhile.
got a 31 pound wahoo but then things slowed.
went out over the 100 and worked the scattered grass for a few hours.
We found some dolphin (mostly gaffers) & finished the day with a respectable catch.

The fishing wasn't red hot, but if you worked at it you could scratch out a catch.
As usual, some do better than others. Many do better than I.

The water is warming some inshore.
We caught a few false albacore (big ones) right at the Sea Buoy. Great fun on spinning gear.
I can't wait for the man in the brown suit to turn up again.

Mr. Geeze,

I believe we caught a glimpse of you down south fishing with the fleet on Sat. Based on your results you would have though we were in the same Parker. Also fished 4/13 at the RP with no success, got boarded by puddle jumpers, decided to call it a day. Heard the bite was south so for the 14th we headed south. First hookup occurred within 5 mins in the water. Hooo was taken from a planer 40 Ft down and the second was almost 5 Hrs later when another Hooo hit on the 14/0. The remainder of the day we found two small chicken pods. Not much action and meat, but it was great being on the water and better than being at home on the couch.

As always, thanks to the crew of Ms. Char, great trip.

I fished my Parker on Friday. Saturday I fished with some friends on his 35' BHM.
Friday we set out about the 050 in 50 fathoms & fished 50-100 fathoms to the southern most of the day.
had a few knots of current from the west so we didn't make much headway.Did the old in & out down the break.
Probably got down to about the 980. Quit early.

Saturday we set out on the break on the 940 and just pointed toward Moorhead. I think we fished as low as about the 820.
Seemed like the wahoo bites were all on the break and the gaffer bites mostly in the deep.

The satellite photo looks great now, lets hope that hot water keeps pushed up in the bight.
I'm very excited about chasing some fish on the wrecks this weekend.

Agreed. Catching fish is indeed a wonderful thing.
Heading out to the deep and doing it all by yourself, that's the real deal.

Will you be down there this weekend?

Mr. Geeze,

Wish I could, but funds allow me to trailer the occasional trip down south from VA Beach. I wish you the best of luck on the wrecks though, sounds like you are going to have a blast.

r,

I fished yesterday.
Caught 3 small gaffers in the deep.
4 blackfin up on the rocks.
The hot water was pushed up near the tower.
We went over a wreck near the tower & got covered in alberts.
Re-rigged, passed over the wreck & hooked 3 Amber jacks on the troll.

Weather looks blown out for a few days.
