First I need to ask to have my ignorance excused. My outboard had a fin (unsure of the true name). Anyway. The gentleman who had it before me drilled for bolt holes into the lower unit. Considering I have the trim tabs I removed the awkward looking fin. However, my question...what do I fill the holes with? Clear silicon? 5200? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Boat is being dropped into the water on Monday.

As always, thanks!

Nothing.....Leave them alone. Those DF-140's that were on my Mako had them on at one time. This was because the motors were on a Cat Boat. I just left the holes alone. Will not hurt a thing.

Paint them, any exposed metal on the gearcase could exacerbate corrosion. Personally, I'd clean them out with a round file and emery paper, then use some chromate primer, followed by the right color paint for the motor. Corrosion can be a real pain.
