I needed to replace my old fuel vent so I ran over to the store and bought a new 90 deg. vent because that's all they had. My question is, should the vent holes face up, down, off to the side, or does it not matter? I realize this may sound like a stupid question, but it's my first boat and the darn thing was broken off when I bought it so I have no idea.

Thanks for your help.

I just installed one for my second tank and it faces the back of the boat at approximately a 45 degree angle. That way rain water cant go in and when running no water can get forced or sprayed in. The hose going to the vent attaches to it then goes up and is attached to the bottom of the gunnel with a screw and pull tie. this will eliminate any water being able to get to the tank.

This is what the vent line should look like under the washboard.
