I am replacing a pedestal seat with a leaning post. My question is how wide should it be?
What is the standard width of a stock or factory leaning post for a Parker 1801?
I have looked at most of the manufacturers like:
Taco
Birdsall
SeaCustom
Cutting Edge
Etc...

I like the Sportsman's model from Welding World out of Miami.
It has everything I want and the price is not too outrageous.

I want one with a storage box and a grab rail on the back side.
Your opinions and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Experience with the leaning post on my former 17 Dusky...

Cooler storage underneath is a good thing. Makes for excellent dry storage on an open boat.
Rod holders in the back side, also good.
Seat back rest... never used. There were many times I would sit on top of the leaning post with my feet on the washboard, and fish off the side.
Without the seat back, I could also cast and fish off the stern while seated.
Grab bar on the back... I did not have one but wish I had when a friend drove my boat and I stood behind the leaning post.
Mine did not have the storage well beneath the seat.

Price them out from the suppliers you mentioned, then call Parker to see what they charge for one of theirs.

I have the Taco Neptune Premium leaning post and the universal leaning post backrest as a replacement for my flip-flop seat. I'll take some pictures next time out.

The backrest is a concession to SWMBO as it takes up two of the rod holders.

An igloo marine 72 qt cooler lives under the leaning post and the storage area is SWMBO's dry storage space when she's on the boat. Otherwise 6 3700 boxes fit nicely.
