Its not overkill, and it'll work. I still install fork terminals... its a PITA, but worth it if you ever have to reconfigure. You can also cut those bus bars apart and use them separately. We've got 4 sets in the 55'.
 
I have used that product. Works very well, had no problems organizing accessory wiring using it.
 
You actually should set up a NEMA box.

It consists of a Radio Shack "Project Box" With a small wire terminal board mounted inside.

It makes a neat common point to make connections. It has a terminal board that is designed for small gauge wiring.

I've done several of them. This is all for NEMA 0183.

It also protects the delicate wiring from water/damage.
