My first question for you folks!

I'm looking at a 2520XL and will be using the boat for diving purposes. I've been diving off of Parker's a few time and its a great platform.

I've searched and read many posts in regards to this question, but wasn't 100% sure. I know the 25 has the twin 150 option, would that be enough power for 4-5 divers? I know with twins, it's double the service, but that is something I will do (currently learning).

I also know a single 250 is an option as well. Same question as above, would that be enough power?

Boat load would consist of 4-5 divers and 2 tanks each, if that helps.

Thanks for your input!

Cheers,
Brandon

I have a single yama 300 on mine and its a beast.... Should suit you fine.... I run fishing charters for 4-6 people so i'm always running heavy.

I have a 98 2520 SC with a '06 225. i would like a 300 but for now it does the trick. Labor day i took 4 other divers with tanks and gear on a 180 mile round trip from Naples to the Keys and it ran like a champ. At 4500 i was a tick under 30 mph and getting a little over 2mpg. i know that i pushed her a tad but at that distance going much slower can really drag out a trip. I really feel a 300 would be the right fit, but it's going to take a bit to save the 20k for it.

I bet a 350 would really make a 2520 fly. I'd bet you could see 50mph in the right seas.

When I tested props 2 guys 1/2 tank of fuel (merc rev4 17p prop) and a clean bottom I get 13.4 gph 4200RPM speed is 28-29 mph and WOT is 5500 and 41-42mph....

When Im loaded down with 5-6 guys its more like 15 - 16 gph 4400 RPM to get 26mph

As my bottom got dirty this year the fuel burn was getting pretty bad.... I wouldn't have visions of 3mpg but 2mpg is about right under normal loaded conditions and sea state

Wow, I'm really surprised that the performance of the 300 Yam isn't any better than that ...

Your speed/RPM numbers are close to what I get with my Suzuki DF250 (running a PowerTech 4-blade prop), but I get much better fuel economy. I think the bigger 16" wheel on the Suzis are better for our big boats, as my fuel efficiency on the 250 way outperforms that of the Yam 300.

Here's what I got yesterday as a direct readout from my fuel computer. My speed was down as I was running against the tide, yet I was still @ 2.5 MPG ... one cannot beat that!

2.5 mpg is right if I have 2 people, clean bottom and 1/2 tank of fuel..... When I'm loaded with 150 gallons of fuel, 5-6 people, bottom less than perfect its more like 2
