Temporary protection?

My port side encountered an outboard skeg on a neighbor's boat and got a gash. I do not have exact measurements yet but it runs maybe 10 inches in length. And does go a ways into the glass.

It's well above waterline.

My question is: Until I can haul the boat out and get it to a pro to fix, should I cover this wound with something to keep water out? If so, what/how?

Sorry if this topic is maybe already covered, but I'm kinda in a time pinch. Good advice appreciated.

I'm a marine surveyor and deal with damaged fiberglass all the time. Would probably be ok, but it wouldn't hurt to cover it with duct tape to keep the water out. That's all you need to do.

If above the water line, it should be fine.
Wash and go.
