    Rule Auto (computerized) Pumps

Just an FYI, the auto-cycling feature on these pumps requires good voltage. Returned one before I realized that a corroded butt connection in my aft pump ground line was dropping enough voltage keep the auto-cycling from working, even though the pump ran in manual mode.

    Replace Helm?

So I've got a slow steering fluid leak into the bilge and will have to pull new hydraulic lines. 15 y.o. boat - question is should I go ahead and replace the helm too? What's the typical life expectancy of the helm? It's the standard SeaStar TeleFlex. The ram (motor end) was replaced a few years...

    Water in Bilge

Mem Day weekend I spent a couple hours in my boat at dock (re-wiring, etc.) while it was raining and discovered several small rain leaks. 3 of them were around bow rail holes (I've since re-chalked them - note: removing/installing bow rail not a one-person job!!). I indeed do get rain in via the...

Replacement Transom Storage Bins/Leaking Hatch Doors

I have a notched transom boat with access doors on top of each side. The drop-in storage bins that fit under the doors have cracked to the point of being useless, and without them a lot of rain water drips down into the battery compartment/bilge. Anyone know where I might get replacement bins...

    De winterizing outboards

Just make sure you let all the water drain out of the engines before you put them up for transport.

    Nice nook for Andriod Tablet

That's a good place for it - way out to starboard to help offset that microwave :) I'm jealous of that microwave...

    Suzuki repower questions

To (hopefully helpfully) re-phrase a bit: At a given rpm a 4-stroke outboard will generally have less torque than a 2-stroke, so in order to achieve the same power output, you have to run at a higher rpm (power is roughly rpm x torque). At a constant boat speed, the 4-stroke is relying on more...

Need advice on my thru hull for live well discharge

I have same fittings for my deck drain scuppers. Assuming I can actually get to them without taking a chainsaw to the deck, this is what I'm going to replace them with: http://greatlakesskipper.com/product/5_ ... apper.html Perko part # 377-B08-PLB, in case the URL doesn't work.

    2006 E-TEC 250 For Sale (MA)

2006 E-TEC 250 25" ~1250 hours total. ~250 hours since factory replaced (new) power head and lower. Motor recently died with EMM failure, but was running flawlessly prior to that. Motor is going into Evinrude dealer today to be fixed and will have a completely clean bill of health (will provide...

    Re seal Deck plates

Are you planning to replace any of them? I replaced that one over the fuel tank and the 2 I have in the splashwell. I used 4200 too.

    Transom question

Not having a bracket saves me a couple hundred $ a year in slip fees (2320 with pulpit and bracket is a long boat 23' boat...), but that's the only upside I can think of. Well, brackets can also make the motor(s) harder to work on at sea, but there's not much you can fix at sea anymore anyway...

    Underwater Scuppers

Thanks. You are right - access is ugly. I wish I had thought to do this while the engine was off recently. I might have been able to get in there through the access ports with engine off. I also think I was underestimating how hard it's going to be to replace the rear pump. I think "shore...

    Underwater Scuppers

Quote from another site: "A scupper that is under water is not called a scupper, it is called a leak!". Are those scuppers underwater? The ball scuppers are great at keeping surging water out when you're backing down, etc., but aren't designed to be watertight, nor constantly submerged, I...

    Underwater Scuppers

Thanks to all who responded to my last query about thru-hulls, and to previous posters on similar subjects - lots of good info. This the new engine investment along with the fact that I now keep the boat in a slip has me really focusing on making sure it doesn't sink at dock :) Spent some time...
