I put something similar on my center console with suction cups on the windshield. The console holds the weight, the windshield keeps it upright. It is very handy, especially when things are going fast and furious.

CaptainJim, I am going to use your idea of using red oak and 4200 to attach extra rod racks. I am curious about how they are holding up. I did not know that 4200 would hold up. Also, I trailer my boat and it will take a lot of road pounding. Will 4200 hold up to that?

You don't need to take the oil tank out. Once the battery has the cables off and the battery hold-downs off, turn the battery counter clockwise (as viewed from the stern) and you can lift it out of the compartment.
