    Weight considerations: repowering a 98' 1800?

Tohatsu is the lightest 140 and probably very competitive on price and quality.

    What's better for 2820: Twin 150 or 300/350 duoprop?

Most if not all of this advice, unfortunately ignores the actual performance sited by the link in your post. Boog states that he actually owned 2 2820’s with 150’s and they performed fine. Based on the fact that many of the 2520’s have twin 200’s I would think that would give you similar...

    Drain plug stuck, help

I was merely pointing out that for many there is no need to remove the plug. I learned this from the guy who built my first boat, and until I heard his knowledgeable opinion I wouldn’t have considered it. Sorry if that offends some who can’t see it any other way or have nothing left to learn.’

Merely pointing out another option/opinion! It’s how some people learn.

    Drain plug stuck, help

Who pays $10’s of thousands for a boat and lets snow collect in it? A properly supported tarp will solve this!

Why wouldn’t bilge drain freeze in that scenario?

    Drain plug stuck, help

Never been an issue for me. But I would never neglect my boat at a level that would allow it to be filled with water while on land!

    Drain plug stuck, help

What about the thousands of larger boats that are built without drain plugs?

    Drain plug stuck, help

Many solutions to a problem that doesn’t need fixing, ha. I’m guessing the boat has a bilge pump?

    Drain plug stuck, help

Just leave it in. I’ve owned 4 trailerable boats and only on one did I ever remove the plug.

    I have a 1987 2520 Sou'Wester that needs repowering...

He’s trying to keep the weight the same so he doesn’t have to change the bracket. Suzuki is 600 lbs. The current motor only weighs 470 lbs. New Mercury 225 is 475 lbs.

    I have a 1987 2520 Sou'Wester that needs repowering...

As for the Yamaha 200, it’s an in line 4 and I think it would be under powered.

    I have a 1987 2520 Sou'Wester that needs repowering...

I think the new Mercury 4 strokes are good motors, but can’t speak from experience. I have a 1998 Mercury 225 EFI, and would like to re- power and am concerned about weight. My research showed that of all current production motors, the Mercury was the lightest 225 hp. Evinrude is no longer...

If you are happy with the performance you are getting with 225hp, your lightest option I believe is a Mercury 225.
