I've been looking at buying a used 2006 21SE with a transom mounted motor and notice that it does not have a sea gate. Has the lack of a gate ever been problematical for anyone, particularly in a following sea with water coming in over the transom? Thanks for any info.

I've never heard a report of such a problem.
The design has been around for a lot of years, so it's a tested and proven design.

Never an issue for me. Even if a wave came over the transom backing down, the scuppers are well above the water line and things drain quickly.

I had a 21 SE for 10 years and only had water come in over the stern once and as the previous poster indicated the water drained quickly and was not an issue.

I had a a21SE for 7 years and then a 23 SE for 6 years. Same set up with the notch transom. Nothing to worry about.

Had my 21se for 9 seasons, no problem either.

The 21se has a well designed self-bailing cockpit. Scuppers never under water, even with a couple of guys standing back there fishing.
