I have a Guest Maintainer/Charger that I keep plugged in when the boat is not on the water, does it matter if the battery switches are on or off while I have the unit plugged in, nothing is on, but all the preset stuff on the electronics gets removed every time the battery switches are turned to off, so what is the proper setting for the switches for the battery's off or it does not make any difference ?

Off is correct although, it will still charge if you leave the switch on. I have the Pro Mariner brand and on mine, there is a light that tells you when it's charging and another light that tells you when it's charged. The charge light will display whether I have the batt switch on or off.
