Attempting to install a downrigger on my 23se. I have the mount which inserts into the Gunwale rod holder, the problem is the plastic insert in the rod holder needs to be removed in order for the mount to fit. I tried to remove it yesterday by cutting a slit from the bottom inside to where the crossing rod is located, an inch or so from the bottom. I thought the insert would slide right out but did not. I pulled with pliers but that thing is in there tight.

Anyone ever run into this problem? If so what was your solution

I had a similar problem some Lee's rodholders I put on my boat.

I got them out by pushing a small flat-head screw driver with a long shaft down in between the rubber and the metal. I then pulled inward which kind of broke the seal. Then I just pulled it out with pliers.

I had the same problem, just took a 1/2" drive socket extension and tapped it from underneath, once loosened it becomes easier, no damage to insert at all.
