I have a Sea Star Hydraulic Steering System, Model #HC5358, on my 2004 2520XL and last season the seal gland started to leak slightly. This season I decided to fix it and noticed that the stainless steel rod was pitting and peeling as if it were stainless steel plating. Has anyone encounted this problem.

I always spray with WD-40. SeaStar has a 3 year warranty. Check their website.

I e-mailed them yestarday and they agreed to send me a new unit. I'll have to trand sell it or get credit from the dealer I bought it from.

FYI that is a chrome-plated rod and not stainless steel.
