Have the NSS12 - love it thus far, but have been trying to get the radar overlay feature to work. Finally called simrad for help. Apparently I need an RC42 rate compass (about $650) for the radar to be able to overlay on the chart plotter. No where did I see this before, nor does the manual explain this anywhere (at least not that I could find).

Has anyone else discovered this to their disappointment?

Interesting that Simrad didnt mention that antena to me. They said only the RC42 which is like $650. That $200 antenna seems better.

This is well known. A rate compass is required for any brand, it is not specific to Simrad.

I just installed an NSS 12 and 8 as well as the rate compass. I have not yet installed the radar so I do not know how well the overlay works. But the heading is correct on the chart when on the drift.
