Stern rodholders

I have a 2007 2520 XL with a single F250. I want to mount 2 rodholders on the back of the boat. The options I thought of are:

Mount a rail on the back of the boat and use rail mount holders

Use those rodholders with a mounting plate that the rodholder slides into

or simply use rodholders with a mounting plate

any other ideas?

You can buy rod holders made to surface mount on transom.

I have the same boat with twins. The transom has 4 fishbox lids that pretty much take up the entire top of the transom. It doesn't appear that there is any place to flat mount rod holders, which is what I would really like to do. Any ideas?
