Well the powerhead swap idea was abandoned when I came across a good deal on a 200 Yamaha. Got home yesterday about 5:30 and unloaded the Yamaha and removed the Merc. I have to order a new support rod as the one in the Merc is frozen in place. I will also need a 704 Yamaha Binnacle control.

I think I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I got the Yamaha hung and bolted up yesterday evening. I need to reinstall the Seastar cylinder and pull those aggravating cables and wiring harness. Anyone want to help?

Hey, looking good. Nice choice on motor, I have the same one on my 21se.

FYI, my boat came installed from the factory with the Teleflex "No-Feedback" steering, and drives almost effortlessly.

Just wanted to let you know that you have another option. Less complexities compared to a hydraulic based system.

With a 17" pitch prop, mine hits 45 mph based on GPS, with a half tank of fuel. Cruise is 30 MPH at 4000 RPM's.

Even factory installations can leak after years of use. Every few years all deck hardware should be unscrewed/unbolted and resealed.

Flexing hull parts over time due to waves does lossen even the best installs.

After 9 years my cabin window/vent port is leaking. This summer I'll start a deliberate process to remove and reseal all hardware...starting with that window.

What a great thread! That is one heck of a rebuild. Looks like a brand new boat!

Is that a 21 SE or 21 Sou'wester? It looks an awful lot lime my 1987 21' Sou'wester. Which I finally got into operation this season. I'm running a 150 OX66 and like the boat quiet well so far next steps are to add a livewell like you did and possibly a T-top.

Did you do anything special for the livewell rigging to keep it from dripping on the tank top? That is my only concern when it come to how to deal with the plumbing.

Your concerns about water dripping on top of the fuel tank are real. After 17 years my fuel tank needed to be replaced. The dripping water on top of the tank under the live well was to blame.
This is how I corrected the hole where the water supply and drain for the livewell penetrate the deck. I closed the hole to a smaller diameter with glass. I built up the perimeter of the old access hole with pieces of solid fiberglass to about 2” above the deck. This is all under the livewell of a 21’ commercial hull. (Same hull as 21SE)

The livewell sits over the old access panel and is screwed with 5200 applied. I left a couple small openings to the rear of the housing that holds the livewell for any water the might enter to escape. I check sometimes through the round access panel and the deck is always dry.

It has been just over 3 years and all is good.
