My gas gauge started acting up so I checked the sending unit and this is what I found. I was able to retrieve the outer metal tube, but nothing else. It looks like the unit broke off at the threads so now I have several pieces of the unit stuck down in the tank. Any idea how to retrieve them, and what will happen if I can not. Thanks for any and all advice.

Looks like you have the right tool for the job in your second picture. I would have the tank pumped out and maybe they will suck the stuff out. The hose they usewd on one of my boats was large and had several filters. Once empty you could use a light to inspect.

My sender took a dump this season too. Wont read anything below 5/8 of a tank. Im saving that for the off season. Good luck.
