HI, I HAVE 2 E-80 1 E-120 HOOKED UP TO MY RAYMARINE 4KW OPEN ARRAY RADAR. I WAS WONDERING IF ANY ONE MAY HAVE EXPERIANCE WITH THESE SYSTEMS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF U CAN FIND BIRDS WITH THIS RADAR IF SO PLEASE EXPLAIN . WOULD LIKE INFO ON GAINS EXT...

Turn down the gain on you keyboard to start. (no caps except where needed)

Most 4 kw are going to be marginal on birds but since you have an open instead of dome you should have some amount of success.

I have a 4kw Raymarine radar in a dome (not open array). I can occasionally see birds at close range (e.g., within about 1/2 mile). I rarely see a single bird, but when there are many clumped in a flock they do show up.

Have read in multiple threads on several other boards that an open array 6kw is minimum entry level for finding birds over breaking fish beyond eye/bino distance.
