Last year I posted a couple times questioning if anyone else had experienced any oil alarms in rough seas. I had alarms on a couple of occasions in heading seas when the motor cavitated slightly going over a wave. I actually added a little oil on one occasion, and never had additional problems. Also, I never had any issues or alarms in typical seas.

Fast forward to this season, and now my Yamaha is toast, and I have to repower. Diagnosis is that the oil pressure was just high enough not to trigger the oil alarm, but was too low for 4000+ rpm operation.

At the time I got a couple responses who had similar experiences, and thought it was a faulty pressure sending unit, or not a big concern. Don't make my mistake.

Ideally....If you suspect a defective part sender or gauge.....You screw a mechanical pressure gauge in and see what it "Really" is. That's pretty much a standard practice.
