My 2000 21 SE has a 4 stroke 225 yamaha and it looks like it has the corrosion problem (1200 hours later)
I'm thinking of repowering with a yamaha 4 stroke 150 and it in my budget. How do you guys with the same 4s 150 like the performance. the 200 is over budget.

Can't really speak for the 4S, but my OX66 150 and 21SE are a good match. I don't know that I would ever justify the extra $$ on the 200. I've already decided that if mine dies, I'm going with another 150.... just my .02

It is well known that the older 225 Yamahas are a 'weak' 225 (more like 205 at peak).
The newer 150's are considered a 'strong' 150.

When I retired, my fire department owned two 21SE's for use as rescue boats on the Chesapeake.
One had a 225 Merc on it, the other had a 150 Yamaha.

At WOT, the 225 was only 2 kts faster than the 150, and a good bit heavier.
I think you will be fine with one of the new Offshore 150's on that hull.

I had a 2001 21 SE for 10 years and ran it with a 150 (2S), I never had any complaints. Top speed was about 38MPH in perfect conditions, loaded. I tended to run about 25 to 30 MPH depending on chop.

I have a 150 4s on my 2013 21se. I really like the setup. It was a big change coming from a Lake & Bay Backwater 20 with a 225HO Etec. But I have grown to love it. The 150 runs that boat just fine in my opinion. Not sure that the price difference and fuel consumption could be justified from what I hear on perfomance with the 225. And the fuel numbers for me with the 150 at cruise are awesome!

So after looking at the performance bulletins from the factory...

Time to plane considerably faster if that matters to you. Over 30% faster
Fuel burn numbers arent that far apart, slightly better with the 200
3500 rpm, 25.1 MPH, 4.6 MPG with the 200
4000 rpm, 26.3 MPH, 4.05 MPG with the 150
About 6mph difference in top end or so...

Really depends on how you use the boat to determine if it is worth it. For me, its typically 2 people sometimes 4. I get along just fine with the 150. If you carry more of a load and ski or something like that then you can probably justify the 200. I know when I have a lot of people in the boat it is considerably longer to get it to plane, but I can help a little with tabs.
