Hang in there for some other responses. Mine is just to say hello!

However, I would say the NADA can only be a very rough guide given the age of the boat. If things are in wonderfull shape and motor is strong I would say it would be a low price.... on the other hand if things are a bit on the rough side it could be high.... but you knew that. :D

Richard

Richard is correct. NADA is not a very good indicator of value on used boats as the condition of the vessel, combined with market conditions can vary widely.

I have seen 20 year old boats in showroom condition and 5 year old boats that looked like they had been to war, so age alone is not a good indicator.

Location can also affect a boat on the used market. In my area, the Parker brand is a sought-after marque, and a good one (priced correctly) will not be on the market for long. I believe that more Parkers are sold in the Chesapeake by word-of-mouth than by advertising.

Sometimes it comes down to collecting comp prices to get into the zone. After that, it might just be a matter of negotiation... that is, how much are you willing to spend on the boat, and how much is the seller willing to accept.

The price of sale may very well be somewhere in-between.

FWIW - If that 115 Johnson is an Ocean Pro model and you end up buying it, the first thing I'd do is to put the oil injection system back on.

The older OMC VRO systems got a bad reputation early on in their life cycle, but the later systems on the Ocean Pro models were some of the best out there.
The old 90 and 115 hp Johnson OP's were some of the best V4 outboards ever built.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I made what I thought was reasonable offer and we agreed to price we are both comfortable with so I will be a Parker owne as of Friday.

It does have the 115 ocean pro. What would be involved in adding the oil injection? What would be the benefits?

Congratulations!

Not knowing what was either taken off or disconnected, only an OMC mechanic could answer that question.
Some people simply disconnect the injection equipment, while others remove it. If the equipment has simply been disconnected, your mechanic should be able to re-connect, and verify its operation rather easilly. If it has been removed, there will be a cost of parts in addition to the labor.

As to the benefits... cleaner operation is the biggest benefit.

When running a 50:1 pre-mix, the motor is getting 50:1 all the time which means it can load up and run dirty at low RPM's (such as when trolling). Plug life and carbon fouling could be an issue if you don't also run Ringfree or similar product.

The OMC oil injection system cuts back on the oil at low RPM's, and increases it at higher RPM's saving oil, providing for cleaner operation (less carbon buildup), and lenghting the life of plugs.

Dale is the OMC guy here, so maybe he can explain the differences between the old VRO system and the upgraded oiling that was common on the later Ocean Pro's.
