Mounting gunwale speakers. Drilling holes.

All of my stereo equipment was delivered.
I am mounting these gunwale mount speakers and will be using SS screws to attach them.
My question is, how thick is the top of the gunwale? I do not want to drill through.

"Where" there is wood core, I'd bet it's close to 3/4" thick. Look up at it from underneath. On my '92 vintage I can see where the core is, as it is not the FULL width of the washboards, gunwhales, or gunnels ...

You could probably remove a gunwale mounted rod holder and check.
