I have a line on a used 2008 Honda 225 4 stroke (Lefty)(300 hrs) from a pair take off with gauges etc.
I am replacing a 1996 Johnson Ocean runner 225 2 stroke (265 hrs) on my 2310 cut out transom.
Any idea what I should pay for the Honda and does anyone have experience with it.
I know that some of you guys will say stick with the low hours two stroke.... Your point is valid but I am looking for piece of mind off shore and maybe a little quite while running. The other reason is the price. I can afford a used 4 stroke.

B-Faithful has a 225 Honda on his Judge Chesapeake.
He might be able to help you with first hand knowledge of that motor.

I have about 500 hours on my 2009 225 Honda. I really like the motor. It is quiet, smooth, and very fuel efficient. My boat is powered with a 15.25x15 Powertech 4 blade SS prop and I see 38-40mph at WOT and can cruise up to 28-29mph at 4400rpms. The motor is more fuel efficient than the same boats hung with suzuki power. However a knot slower. (For the best fuel efficiency, keep the motor under when the v-tec kicks in.. which is right about 4500rpms) While it has never let me down, I have had to replace 2 oxygen sensors on the motor. Honda is standing behind the product so much though that they sent me a letter stating the fact that they are aware of the 02 sensor problem and issued me a 5 year warranty on the sensor from the replacement date.

Another great point about Honda is their warranty and how they stand behind it. The standard warranty is a 5 year non-declining factory warranty. I am also told that they are great to deal with and quick to respond to their dealers request for warranty work.

As far as weight goes, They are heavier than the old 2 stroke motors. However, very much in line with todays motors:

Dry Weights 225 for 20" shaft models from each website

Merc V-Rod - 635
Honda - 589
Suzuki (25" shaft) - 580
Yamaha - 562

I have a 2520mv with a 2010 225hp with 175 hrs and love it so far great on fuel and I have the same cruise I just lost some on top end but I also stepped down from a merc 250 efi. Idling speed it only uses .6 gallon per hour where my other one used 2.5-3.5 gph and I do alot of idling between trolling and trotlining it really ads up on fuel savings I can also cruise 29-30 mph and burn 8 gph at 4200rpm my other motor was 14-16 gph at the same mph.
