Repair sending unit mounting holes

The screws that mounted the old sending unit to the tank were frozen in these "anchors". I have never seen these before.

The holes in the tank, 2004 .125 thickness, are approximately 1/4" in diameter.

Should I use a helicoil type insert for the screws, or drill and tap threads in the tank for screws, I've also been told I could use 1" stainless steel metal type screws?

Thanks Wart, That's just what I need. I saw a similar split ring on Kus's website but they were backordered. I didn't find these.
