Was wondering what most of you find is your optimal RPM cruising speed. I usually run my 150 four stroke at 3400, but crank it up once each trip to 4500.

Through years of observing boat test reports and then running a fuel computer, 3800 to 4400 RPMs was the 'sweet spot' for 2-stroke moters, with typically 4-strokes needing a little more. My bro can cruise comfortably @ 3600, but he has twin 150s.

When in doubt, 4K would be a good place to start. IMHO you're running fairly low, for a 150 on such a big hull ...

I was told my the mechnanic (yamaha certified) who worked on my HPDI that the optimum is 4000 RPM. If I go to 5000 I will be burning twice as much gas (10gallons per hour opposed to 20 gallons per hour).
