I discussed the 150 vs 200+hp issue with a lot of people, but the comments sounded just like this one. This is Capt Walleye Pete's recent experience on Richie Gaines's boat.

Jumbo is right. I used Richie Gaines 23SE with a 150 yammy 4 stroker. Before running it i thought it would be underpowered. I have a 200 4 stroker on my 21SE. Well, after running it 6 straight days down at the CBBT with a full load of 4 guys + me and equipment I realized somehow it was sufficient power. One day in question it was blowing 20 in my face for the ride back to the dock. With 5 men on board....(4 1/2 if you count my size) I ran directly into the snot and didn't suffer from under power. On a calm day it cruised at 30 MPH and was getting 3.6 to the gallon with a full load. I'm sold on that 150.....My first day using that boat I burned 11.2 gallons from daylight till dark. I couldn't believe that. So......if you need speed and hole-shot the 150 isn't enough. If you arn't going to a fire and arn't pulling 3 skiers it's enough in my opinion. The gas savings alone shocked the crap out of me.

The F150 is the engine of choice for any of the 2100CC Parkers, and the mod-vee 23-footers.

I have a 2100CC deep vee. With three lugs aboard, plus fishing gear and coolers and the bimini up, I get 40+ mph at 6000 rpm, and I have a sweet spot cruise anywhere between 4000 and 4500 rpm.

Burns a lot less gas than the V6 engines, too, and - the F150 weighs more than 100 pounds less than the four cycle V6 engines. That means you can carry any of the SI swimsuit babes aboard without any decrease in performance!

Top that, you guys with the overdeveloped V6 engines.

Welcome to Classic Parker and the Parker Nation.

As Dave (aka 'Porkchunker') coined ... we are your on-line Parker Owner's Manual.

I too have heard that the Yam F150 is a powerhouse of a 150hp motor, probably making a true 160+ at the prop. I too though, would prefer more ponies, recomending a minimum 175hp on the 21' deep-V CC and 200hp on anything > 22', regardless of deadrise.

I bought a 23se in the Fall and just received the electronics from Jim at BOE this past week. It's pretty much the same component list. Just wondered if Jim helped you too?

Mine has the 200HP and I got it in time to take advantage of the deal Yami was doing where they doubled the warranty to 6 years.

Can't wait to splash her.

I'll post pics when it all comes together.

Welcome to the 23SE Club.
we like lots of boat porn here at Classic Parker.
congratulations on your purchase.
your gonna love it!

If anyone who runs a 23SE with a 150 hp is available, I would love to talk to you about the performance. Please send me a b-mail (if it's ok with you), so we can talk. Thanks.

Wow! You certainly got all of the good stuff.
Congratulations and welcome to the Parker brotherhood! :)

BTW - I'd listen to Capt Walleye Pete on this.
Capt Richie Gaines is a sponsored angling guide and could have any power option he wants. That fact that he selects the F150 on his 23SE every year says something to me.

I bought the 25se last year. They are awesome boats. I love it. I think your boat may be under powered with a 150. I know that the engine is a 4 cylinder and lighter but if it has to work harder performance numbers will suffer. With a 225 yamaha they show at 4000rpm 30 mph, 7.7gph and 3.90 mpg. Those are great numbers. If you go to yamaha motors.com they will give you statistics. They dont show a 23se with a 150. There must be a reason. I have an f250 on my boat. Excellent on feul for such a large platform. Good luck with your new toy.
