The stearing cylinder on my 1997 Yammi 225 has a slight drip from one end, is this a DIY project, do I take it to a pro or is it wise to replace a 15 year old cylinder?

If it is a Sea Star you can buy the seal kit that comes with or without the spanner wrench. or without the wrench (HS5167). Pretty easy fix but you have to bleed your system when done. If you have the H5358 (twin engine) or the H5345 (single engine) cylinder the kits are the same. The end cap/seal assembly and a spanner wrench (HS5157) retails about $120 and the end cap/seal assembly alone (HS5157) retails for $95.

I have the HC5340-42 can i replace it with the HC5345?

According to my book all Front and Pivot Mount Sea Star Cylinders use the HS5157 Seal Kit. I don't see the HC5340-42, but see a HC 5342 and it is a Front mount Cylinder and uses the HS5157. You may want to Google it or send Sea Star and email and double check before you spend $100. Here is the link.

Because of the condition of my existing unit I am thinking about replacing the whole thing but the bracket on my HC5340 is not physically the same as the HC5345. (see picture below) do I need to also replace the steering arm that connects the motor to the piston?
