IMHO any xducer wire can be spliced. I've done many!

I stagger the joints, pprovided you already have more than enough run length, so you don't end with one big ball of butt splices. I stagger them at 1", 2" preferably, apart for each connection.

I use dielectric grease inside each butt connections, then coated the ends of the conns with 3M 5200, then all covered by a LONG length of adhesive-lined heatshrink, where the ends cover a section no less than a 3" overlap of good wire.

FWIW I do all 'in bilge' or 'in stern' connections like this and my wiring has been integral ever since - zero issues. And I don't expect any ...
 
Thanks for the reply. This wire is a single stranded wire wrapped in foil and covered in the water proof plastic. Is it essential to keep that foil intact much like a TV wire when you spice?
