As to your other questions... I've never seen a 21SE with a bow mounted trolling motor, but maybe another member has. I would think it'd take a long shaft to reach the water on that model...

As for horsepower, the standard motor on the 21SE is a 150.

My fire department operates two Parker 21SE's, one with a 150 hp Yamaha OX66 and the other with a 225 Merc EFI. Performance on both boats is within 3 kts at WOT.
Given a choice, I'd power a 21SE with a Yamaha F150 4-stroke, or (at most) a 200 HPDI.

The 21SE has 14 degrees of deadrise, so you will have to tab it correctly (trim tabs are a must on this boat), and slow down in a steep chop. The flip side is that it will be quite stable while trolling or on the drift.

I was researching the same thing some time back and I found a guy on the West Coast who said he used a Great White bow mount model SW82 Digital with a 60 inch shaft. He also found that the hand control worked better for him than the foot control on his 21 SE.

Other options to consider, as found here on the forum, are the engine mounted trolling motors, lenco trim-n-troll tabs. If you were fishing for tarpon you might even want to consider the set up that guides use which is two transom mounted trolling motors.

I agree that trim tabs are a good investment for this boat but I have run my 21 SE for 6 years without them. In heavy chop or slop I would have to trim the motor all the way down to keep the nose down but if I just slow down a little the ride is not that bad.

I run a 2 stoke 150 and find it works fine for my needs. Top speed about 40 MPH and plenty of power to get up on plane quickly.
 
Trim tabs are a must on the 21 SE if you go in the ocean. I think the ride on mine is better than previous deep V boats I have had. The tabs keep the bow "planted" level much better than just engine trim. The result is that the sharp bow section cuts the slop with almost no bow bounce and pounding.
It's a perfect fishing boat for me as I like to fish out to 40 miles off shore and go up in the marsh creeks too, which the shallow draft lets me do. I have a Yamaha 150 2 stroke and it's plenty of power for the boat. WOT is about 38 knots with two people on board. Cruise speed most days in the ocean at 3,700 RPM is approx 24 knots.
 
I'm the guy on the west coast that wflgator talked about. He is correct about the 60 inch Great White motor. I had a 60 inch foot control motor that gave me nothing but problems. The hand control unit with an extension is the way to go. Much easier to control!

As far as trim tabs.....I too ordered my 21se without the trim tabs. Get the tabs! Much better ride in the chop. In fact I wish I installed larger tabs than the 12X12 Lenco tabs. I would go with the 9X18 or 12X18 if I were to do it again.
