A nearby dealer has a 1996 Parker 2520 coming in for trade that I may look at for possible purchase. It has a Yamaha 300 HPDI outboard on it. I have seen some negative comments on some forums relating to this motor. Does anyone have any experience or insight relating to the 300HPDI?

The 300 HPDI got a bad reputation when they were first introduced due to some typical 'new motor design' teething pains that gave them an initial black-eye.
If the motor checks out with your mechanic and has had its factory updates, I would not be concerned with it.
The initial OX66's had their teething pains in the early days too, but after getting their updates, they are now considered one of the most reliable designs presently on the water.
