I replaced the tilt trim switch on a yammie a while back that was acting strange and it resolve the problem... However sounds like you may have damaged some part of the "brain".
Also cant help wondering about your emergency kill switch ...
Stand on the cavitation plate of your OB and bounce up and down. If you see that gap in the transom flexing badly, I would replace the transom. Otherwise fill with epoxy/resin. Grind and cap the gap off with glass reinforced resin.
I had a 2510 (1999) that had some cool hardware holding the helm console shut. They were a sort of rotary, draw-tight latch. Does anybody know who make them or where you can find them ?

You can strap the motor down to a pallet and ship it common carrier. Is it a 25 or 30 inch shaft? If it came off the transom its 30. I may be interested if its a 25.
I had a 99 with that motor. I sold it used back in 2007.

I would caution against using silicone sealant on the transom. Silicone is a nice, soft water proof filler, but it has limited adhesion and no structural effect. If I were simply filling the space I would use thickened epoxy.
I have a 99 with a big DF 250 on the transom and there are no...
