    2501 with twin Yamaha 150's

I pushed a 1987 Sou'wester with a single F150 for over 10 years offshore out of Hatteras. Usually about 100 nautical miles per trip. I put 300 hours a year on my motors. She even had a house on her. On a slick calm sea she'd make 30 knots WOT. That hull was a lot flatter than your boat but I...

Plan to fish your rig out of Hatteras this spring?

Spring fishing has mostly been blackfin and small yellowfin up on the rocks. Yesterday we saw a few more wahoo in the mix... wee-hoo's mostly We're all on standby here waiting for the first blast of big gaffer dolphin. If any forum members plan to fish here perhaps I can help. I'm not looking...

Planning to fish Hatteras this spring/summer?

blackfin bite (with the odd yellowfin) has been pretty decent the last few weeks. decent size gaffer dolphin showing up. we pulled off a nice blue marlin the other day. a few sails & whites as well as at least one blue one released already this year. its starting to happen.

Planning to fish Hatteras this spring/summer?

Any captains considering fishing Hatteras that might want to add some "local knowledge" while fishing offshore. I've lived in Hatteras for 10+ years and make 50-75 trips a year offshore. I mostly fish gaffer dolphin, wahoo, and billfish. Far from a mister know it all, I just enjoy a nice day...

    Outrigger Discussion...

i used a pair of gunnel mount 15' poles for over 10 years on my 25 sou'wester before i sold her. Probably 250+ offshore trips. Everything from mahi to blue marlin. Single line, nothing fancy. I used roller trollers but Blacks work fine too. Mono line 400#. Corks from poppin cork lures. Used...

Anyone fished with the Albatross Fleet??

The two offshore captains (Ernie Foster and Brian Mattingly) are first class captains. That time of year no telling what they will be catching. Kings, Wahoo, Tuna ... who knows. They know how to find fish. The docks in Hatteras got pounded pretty hard by Matthew. But the work fixing up is...

    Blue Marlin

Very nice. A blue one on a spreader bar is indeed a beautiful thing. At least he seemed pretty well behaved. Hats off to the boat driver. Keeping the boat driving ahead and the fish between the gunnels is critical to keeping the lines tight. A job equally as important as the grinder & often...

is a 2520 xl enough boat to "safely" fish offshore

Mpellet offers words of wisdom. My take on a Parker (I fish a 25' Sou'Wester out of Hatteras for the last 10 years) is pretty much in line with his comments. Anytime the winds much over 15knots and/or the seas much over 3-4' you really should reconsider going offshore. Its not that you can't...

Yes indeed. That is Captain Charlie of the Sea Dream. Charlie stepped in last winter when the Sea Dream's Owner/Captain Guy Baxter got sick. Unfortunately Guy passed earlier this summer. Truly a great guy. Since then Charlie has been running the trips for Guy's widow.

It has been a while since Bad Betty has left the slip. pretty weather & fewer charters to run/mate provided the opportunity the last week or two. yesterday captain charlie and i ventured out on 5 knots of wind and calm seas. With Betty running 25 knots we got to blue water before the ballyhoo...

    Gear

Its really hard to beat the durability of a shimano tld. The 20#'s would probably do you well in your trolling applications don't even bother with the 2 speed if you can find the single speed ones. the tld25 is pretty good single speed. they are real cheap they just keep going and going. they...

    Disappointed in my ride

Slow Down. I have an older flatter 25' 1987 So'Wester hull and I run it with a single 150 Yamaha. WOT i can make 30 knots on a flat flat sea with fresh paint on her. Mostly I run between 18 and 22 knots. If need be I run at 14. If I can't make 14 I turn around and drink beer at the dock. Its...

The trolling bite is not hot yet, but its trying to get better. We trolled up to the east on saturday. beautiful day & nice edge but no fish. Scattered grass 40-50 fathoms made fishing the hot water pretty tough. Shagged grass all day. Worked inside late in the day & found a nice edge holding...

    I expect many can relate

i'm ready but we have seen few fishable days the last month. weather man's calling for small craft warnings through the weekend. maybe next week will pretty up enough to head offshore. so far most of the catching around here has been bottom fish & a bluefin here & there.

    I expect many can relate

Some nice weather would be great! Motor getting serviced for the season. Bottom needs new paint. Cockpit needs some AWL grip. I might spring for a new fish finder/ducer. I guess I'm not quite ready. But neither is mother nature.

    Penn International 80W

The reel is still available. It is a single speed vintage but it has never been used or had line wrapped on it. Its been in its original box in my dad's basement for years. It still has all the parts & manuals, including the reel grease tube (unopened). I'd put it on a 80-100lb class rod. Send...
