Mine is through bolted. in my cabin there is a 4"piece of glassed wood that it is attached to. It is not secured to the hull.

I just happen to have the wiring diagram to my 1997, 2320 and it does show a diode, although I have never noticed it.

From the looks of thing, you had a stiff bearing (not frozen but almost). It did not freeze up on the 3 mile drive but got extremely hot, you dunked it in cold water, the casting cracked. That is a standard leaf spring drop axle, with Kodiak disk brakes.

Even though I done repairs over the years, I’d find a reasonably price pro. My uncle however would say “ya can’t see the hull when you’re on your boat”

AH, you did not mention that the OB was on the transom. Silly me mine is on a bracket, and that is why a picture is worth a 1000 words.
