2120 SC

Hey guys, it was nearly 2 years ago (doesnt seem that long) that I posted a thread here about the 2120,2320 and a 22 Grady. The recession and fears of the unknown have kept me (and the Admiral) from trading our 21 hydra-sports . As the economy seems to be improving slightly and I am getting tired of "waiting for things to improve" we are ready to make the move to another boat.

I have been talking with the guys at Norfolk Marine and they have offered us a good deal on 2010 model 2120 with the F150 . I of course am ready to take the plunge but She Who Must Be Obeyed (SWMBO) has major concerns with this setup. About 3-4 years ago her boss took her and her coworkers out in the Chesapeake Bay for a day of fishing , and apparently (to her) the boat handled terribly. From what she tells me there were about 6 people on board (most of the guys were well fed :roll: ) and the boat was barely able to get on plane. She also stated that adrift the hull would snap roll, violently at times ,when beam to to the sea.

Obviously we would not have that much weight aboard , although we havent missed many meals either. Her fears are that we will buy the boat and simply not like the way it performs. I have searched every thread on CP and THT about the boat and for the most part all responses are positive. But SWMBO knows her experience first hand and is not convinced.

The point of all this rambling is to ask your opinions on this issue (one more time) and to see if there is anyone in the area around Suffolk Va either on the Southside or the Peninsula who would be willing to take us for a test ride ( I would gladly pay for your time and gas) :?: ? I tried to get the dealer to take us out but they will not splash a new boat for a trial and I can understand that too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought myself a new 2120, one advertised on the classifieds here, and am very happy with it. I have had it out with 7 of us on it just for cruising and while slower to plane with that many people it wasn't too bad with tabs to help. It cruises just fine around 30 MPH and i had it up to 37 with the 7 of us on it. I too looked at norfolk marine and had the same reservations you had. I was scared to buy a boat without riding in one. I found one used and took a ride and was in love. Have not been in any big seas yet with it. I know there is one for sale I have seen on craigslist that is at www.millermarinesales.com too. It is a used 08. I am currently working all kinds of crazy hours at work so I dont know that I could get it in the water anytime soon but if in a month you still havent bought we might be able to work something out. Once again I really like my boat so far and it seems very well built.

I bought a 2120Sc in 2006 from Norfolk Marine. They were great to deal with and I trailer my boat back every year for them to do it's yearly check up. I have owned several types of boats and dealt with a number of different marine dealers. I will always deal with Norfolk Marine. They have earned my trust. I love my 2120SC and Norfolk Marine

I appreciate the info and the offer 07vtgt if we havent done anything in a month maybe we can get together. As I said in the original thread the wife is convinced that we will not like the 2120 and I have no idea what her boss was doing in his boat (an 04 2120 with I believe a 2 stroke 150) that made her experience so bad.
Coach I believe we met at the Hampton boat show when my brother and I were looking at the Parkers (if I recall correctly you are a tiny little fellow with alot of hair ) . Everyone I have spoken to about these boats are very happy with it and we have dealt with Norfolk Marine before so I know the dealer is sound.
As I stated in the original post the only way I can get my wife on board is with a test ride, I know to invite total strangers on your boat is unusual, but I assure you we are normal working people who currently own a boat and have owned boats for years and even live on the water (the Nansemond River ) . I say this to let you know that we are not just looking for any boat ride and it shouldnt take long. I will pay what you feel is appropriate.

The only boat my wife would let me buy was the 2120. It may not be the smoothest ride in a rough sea but you know you have a solid boat under you. As long as you don't need to make 60 mph tournament style runs the 150 Yammie is fine. She'll get on plane faster if you put the tabs down first.

The part both of you will like most is those snotty October and November days. She can go in the cabin, sip a hot chocolate and be snug and cozy and you can fish in peace.

Thats my thoughts exactly finsup21, we mostly fish in the spring and fall and at the end of striper season its getting pretty darn cold. I would also put some sort of shade device in the cockpit,probably a bimini top, for the summer fishing/cruising.
My wife is an avid... fisherperson? as well. We were married in the Bahamas and were fishing the islands for the next 2 days. Every vacation we go somewhere to fish at least part of our stay, last year we went to Alaska and caught some nice salmon and halibut, and she hangs right with me (but the 220 lb halibut was mine!) .
