thanks for the information, the smell of gas must ,of course, be from a leak, my vision is cloudy because i would like this boat, but if the tank is leaking , that may be to much for me to handle, how do you check for a leaky tank?? or for eathnoal phrase separtion? i guess the smart move is to get a survey, i am getting a compression test done, by the way the boat is a 23, pilot house dv, 1997 with a 225 yamaha, no known hours, with trim tabs and a windlass for $ 9000...
 
No expert here, never had to deal with a leaky tank. Could have a leaky fuel line. I would think a pressure test would determine if the tank is sound. A survey is a must. If the tank is bad, its no an easy one to replace, deck has to be cut and repaired, probably 3-4k to have that done. If the motor and boat check out and it comes with a trailer, 9k is a great deal even with a tank replacement.
