What type of extinquishers do you recommend, BC or ABC and what are your mounting locations?

Types:
I follow this ...

http://www.uscgboating.org/SAFETY/fedreqs/equ_fire.htm, or http://powerboat.about.com/cs/safety/a/ ... nguish.htm

Locations:
Right now I have one B-Iin trunk cabin and one B-II in the helm cabin. I may add a larger combo ABC-rated extinguisher in the cockpit up under the rail/washboards.

Other:
Like those links state, I tip them upside-down every month or so and give them a sharp rap on the bottom to make sure the dry powder hasn't settled into a solid cake. During the Winter layover, I store them upside-down.

Having them is key ... maintaining them properly is critical!

I have mine mounted horizontally which helps with the packing of the material. I also tip and shake them quarterly.

The horizontal mounting has gotten positive feedback at each of the Coastie courtesy inspections I've recieved over the years.

I mounted two of them in my cabin using the bottom bolt from the outside grab-rail.
