David - ( Sea Owl ) 2510 twin 200 HPDI Green Harbor, MA Does anyone have a solution on cleaning my fresh water tank. Have not used the system on a regular basis and would like to clean it so the water could be drinkable if possible.

Hi David!
We clean our water tanks annually on our liveaboard trawler in FL. Our routine is pretty straightforward.
1. Dump the tank.
2. Refill with fresh water.
3. As you are refilling, add bleach to the tank. Don't use the perfumed, fancy stuff...just good ol' bleach. I don't know how big your tanks are but we add about a cup in our 150 gallon tank. Don't be concerned about overdoing it.
4. Run water out of every hose until it smells of bleach.
5. Let it "cook" overnight.
6. The next day dump the tank and refill.
7. Dump and refill again.
8. Give it the sniff test. If it smells OK, give it a taste.
9. If it tastes OK, you are done. If it still tastes of chlorine, dump and refill until it's OK.

We used to add a couple ounces of bleach at every fill up but changed our approach and now we just do this "shock" treatment annually. It's important that you use the water in the tank and replenish it with fresh.
